How to read your net collection rate

Benchmark. A healthy net collection rate is often around 95% or higher.

Net collection rate is the clearest read on how much of the money you have actually earned, after contractual adjustments, that you go on to collect. A rate sitting well below the mid-90s usually means revenue is leaking somewhere between the claim and the deposit: denials that are never worked, underpayments no one catches, write-offs taken too early, or balances that age out of timely filing.

What moves it

  • Denials worked to resolution instead of written off
  • Underpayments caught and appealed against the contracted rate
  • Aging receivables followed up before timely-filing deadlines
  • Clean documentation so fewer claims are reduced or denied
